Great Story!

Published in the Haverhill Echo, February 18, 2012:
A couple and their friend were left counting their blessings after a 'knight in shining armour' rescued them in the snow. Matt Carter, his wife Charlotte and her friend Ellie Darling were trying to get from a friend's wedding at the White Hart in Great Yeldham to the couple's home in Bury St. Edmunds, when their car slithered to a halt.

Matt's band Cupid's Wish had played at the wedding and the rest of the band spent the night in their van with their equipment in the hotel car park."We were stuck halfway up the hill," explained Matt, "I've never been stuck as badly as that and I don't know what would have happened if he hadn't helped."But then this guy drove up in a 4x4 Subaru and stopped at the top of the hill, then took a shovel out of his boot."He got them to the top of the hill then suggested they follow him to his home for coffee. Once there he checked the weather forecast and said they could stay the night or battle on to the main road, which he did not advise.Matt said: "We stayed at his house and, even better, the next morning the roads were still bad so he drove us to Bury and we picked the car up on Monday.

"If it had happened in a film people would just think 'what a lame story' but it was a classic knight in shining armour. For me, he's led by example and that's going to make me think differently about helping people."

Their hero is a serving Metropolitan Police officer, who said: "The reason I did it was they were going to spend the night in the car and you had three people who weren't equipped for it."The man was in a suit and the girls wearing high heels. It's human nature really - who else is going to do it."I took them home because it was still bad and he had a wedding the next day. You can't let someone's big day be spoilt. Imagine the band not turning up to someone's wedding."
